North Carolina Bishops support Gay Marriage Ban

Bishops support gay marriage ban
Posted: Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009
RALEIGH North Carolina's two Roman Catholic bishops joined dozens of religious leaders, conservative state lawmakers and traditional-values activists seeking an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage.
Bishop Michael Burbidge of Raleigh and Peter Jugis of Charlotte attended a news conference at the legislature in Raleigh on Tuesday.
Supporters – including Jugis and Burbidge – hailed the introduction of a bill in the Senate and one expected in the House that would amend the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. Proponents emphasized that North Carolina remains the only Southern state without such an amendment.
Similar legislation has been introduced in previous years, but Democratic leaders did not permit a vote.
North Carolina has a law against gay marriage, but one liberal judge can knock it down, supporters of the proposed amendment said. They warned of unhealthy family environments, teaching children that homosexuality is correct, forcing changes in inheritance law and ending marriage as God intended.
“Moms and Dads are not interchangeable,” said Sen. Jim Forrester, a Gaston County Republican and chief sponsor of the Senate bill.

The Democrat Reformation and conservative rebuild

There are so many grassroot efforts coming into being. In fact the very word, grassroots, has taken on a whole new level of urgency in my opinion. The Republican party is no different. The encouragement of forming grassroot clubs is taking root. We have been encouraged my our RNC chairman, Michael Steele, to get to work from the grassroots up.

As I just twittered to former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, "Why does all this have to happen, why this stimulus package when cap gains seems to be the majority of the conservatives' opinion?

It seems like the Reformation all over again. Think about it, when Martin Luther had viable complaints, he was put out and the door slammed behind him. His followers clamered with him and through the years separated themselves further and further away from the Catholic Church...even to the degree that much of the truth of the faith has now been ignored and rendered base. The Democrats, in the political arena, have come in with their sleeves rolled up and have literally undone important strides for a better and sound nation. To top off the initial "hostile takeover" of this administration is this stimulus package that was the "test of the waters" to see just how gulible BO's followers are. It worked, he seems triumphant.

Can the grassroots handle the challenge, can we stop the Democrats' reformation before it goes too long? Causes too much damage?

The US is the "House Divided"

Here we are, just as Christ teaches us in Mark 3:23-27
"If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if
a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
and if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that
is the end of him. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his
property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder
his house."

Well, looking at what is going on in Washington, DC, what do we have here?

All the pride, gluttony, wasteful thinking, individual agendas, "we won" mentality, blame gaming, anti-partisanship activity taking place in our nation's government, we are truly a house divided and in these dangerous times, this is VERY irresponsible. The United States is a fishbowl, with the rest of the world watching us and all the folly going on here. What an extremely terrible example we are!

Who is leading this mess? It looks like the Democrats are a bunch of children, whose parents, the Republicans, have gone to sleep and the candy store's door was left unlocked.

Another great American, Tom DeLay

Former Congressman, Tom Delay, spoke at the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women's Winter meeting last weekend. I got to ride the elevator down to the first floor where we were meeting just before and he is such a nice guy. I married a Houstonian and lived in Fort Bend county where much of Mr. DeLay's talk was about. Boy, did I get homesick for my life Texas...oh gosh, did I forget about the horrid humidity? The pavement that could bake full-size layer cakes on em? Oh my gosh, the flatness of the place, where as you rise above the land on a beltway ramp, you can see several counties in the distance. But with those things that I didn't like about Houston, there were things that I did like about it, the food, opportunities, convenience of having most everything and anything within a 40 minute trip....through traffic.

Anyway, it was very nice to meet Mr. DeLay and today I received his book, "No Retreat, No Surrender" with it autographed. How great is that? I do hope to see him back in the saddle again in Washington, DC.

It was great meeting you, Mr. DeLay and THANK YOU for the book! I'm sure to devour it over the weekend. Possibly a book review will be in the making, I do them over at my other blog, so why not here as well.

What is Kay Hagan REALLY saying these days?

Next week I will be introducing Sen Richard Burr as our speaker at our monthly meeting. He will be in town for another event in the evening and evidently they seek out other Republican events in the area to kill 2 or more birds with one stone. Nervous as I am about having the responsibility of hosting a US senator, I needed some input on how to properly introduce one. I called the senator's office in DC and a young man with a calm soothing voice answered the phone...a live person. Explaining the purpose of my call, saying "Senater Burr will be speaking at our club next Thursday and I am the president, I need to introduce him and wanted some pointers...as ridiculous as that sounds in light of what's going on up there these days." This gentleman was very sweet, chuckled, then just reminded me to refer to the senator as Senator "and if I make a mistake, the senator will probably just make a joke of it" He told me to use the bio on the website and "don't be nervous, it'll be fine." I thanked him and told him to have a good day and he returned my wish and that was that. Very nice!

It occurred to me last night that at the county GOP meeting on Wednesday, one of the members complained that she tried to call Sen. Kay Hagan's office and was greeted by a answer machine message telling her to call back at another time, no matter what time it was. Evidently, this woman has been trying to call the senator several times. Wonder why that is?

Now, Senator Hagan says on her website that she is working with Sen. Collins to reduce the porkulous bill by $100 billion. Still that was February 10th and there was no information on her website as to what she is reading and voting on.

On Senator Collins' website, she states that she and not Kay Hagan, but Senator Ben Nelson are working on a compromise that would bring the "recovery" bill down to about $110 Billion. Below is information on her website:

Highlights of the Nelson-Collins agreement include:
• $42 billion in transportation infrastructure investments

$77 billion in education invest. including aid to states, sp. ed. and Title I funding
$6.4 billion for environmental infrastructure incl. water and sewer infrastructure

$87 billion in temporary and targeted Medicaid relief to states

$70 billion for a one year fix for the Alternative Minimum Tax

$2.9 billion for weatherization programs

$500 million for firefighters assistance programs

Sen. Hagan's website is very vague and doesn't give us any information like Sen. Collin's does.

Do you think that may be one reason why we can't leave a message at Sen. Hagan's office?

Being a bystander in the political world

As I sit and watch all the Hannity, O'Riley, Limbaugh, and Fox News takes on what's going on in American politics this past year, I have been brought me to my knees on several occasions. Recently, with this "pig" bill whizzing through Washington at light speed, I just want to run to the Capital and get up on a table and scream, "Wait!!!! WAIT JUST A COTTON PICKIN MINUTE!!!!!!!!!!

Greta Van Susteren had two opposing senators on last night asking them about the plan for this so-called stimulus package, saying to one, "We don't need to do anything right now, but maybe cut the Federal tax for a few months and that should take care of it, don't you think?" Senator DeMint basically agreed. The other senator who voted FOR the stimulus package couldn't tell her the timetable for seeing how this plan is working or not working, only that, "Yes, we will be watching it, monitoring it for a time to make sure that it's working. I don't know for how long, but we will definitely be monitoring the progress of this plan." Greta wasn't satisfied with his answer....and neither am I.

What is wrong with this leadership that we can't listen to common sense? Why can't the President and his advisors have a team of economic specialists put together a basic senario that would be unbiased, unmotivated by lobbyist pressures, and only motivated by their expertise and the welfare of our country that they would learn and govern with? Why is this such a mess? Why can't they be realistic?

Helpless, wronged, ignored, unregarded, not on the radar screen of concern, are the citizens of this once great nation......especially the children.

'Restless' Obama and family head to Camp David

A HT: Adrienne's Corner

DAILY NEWS STAFF

Saturday, February 7th 2009, 7:25 AM

It took Barack Obama two years to get to the White House, but barely more than two weeks for wanderlust to set in.

"He's a bit of a restless soul," Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday when asked if Obama was feeling "cooped up in the White House." Try that line with your boss next time you want to get away from the office

Saturday, Obama and his family are due to head for Camp David for their first overnight stay at the presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains. Yep - two whole weeks of insulting the intelligence of the American people can make you very, very weary!

Next week, Air Force 1 will be rolling out of the hangar to take him on four trips. This greenie-weenie wants you to live like a cave dweller to "save the planet", but has no problem firing up this filthy gas hog. Reminds me of the inauguration when they had to close down one whole section of an airport to park the private jets of the Hollywood elite.

On Monday and Tuesday, he plans day trips to Elkhart, Ind., and Fort Myers, Fla, to pitch his economic recovery plan. Earth to Obama - they don't want it!!!

On Thursday, he returns to Springfield, Ill., where he served as a state legislator, to mark Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday.

Then late next Friday, he plans to fly to Chicago his hometown, to spend the weekend and go out Saturday night with wife, Michelle, for a Valentine's Day dinner date. And you, fellow Americans, are paying for President Obama to fly his wife to Chicago for dinner!!

Check out Adrienne's Corner often, she is a kick! But she has it right on about the politics. Thanks Adrienne!!

The Action Americans Need
By Barack Obama
Thursday, February 5, 2009; A17

By now, it's clear to everyone that we have inherited an economic crisis as deep and dire as any since the days of the Great Depression. ME (IN CAPS): THE DATA doesn’t support this claim; interest, inflation, unemployment, GPD growth, were not the same back then. This crises is really unlike any we’ve ever seen. Mortgage-backed securities didn’t even exist as they do today, Fannie and Freddie weren‘t even unviable tissue masses back then.

POTUS: Millions of jobs that Americans relied on just a year ago are gone; millions more of the nest eggs families worked so hard to build have vanished. People everywhere are worried about what tomorrow will bring. SO LET‘S EXPLOIT THIS CRISES BY MAKING A WISHLIST OF LIBERAL SPECIAL INTERESTS FROM THE LAST 30 YEARS, THROW IN SOME PHONY TAX CUTS AND TITLE IT A STIMULUS PACKAGE? -Seriously folks, if that’s what this bill really is, wouldn’t you be mad to find out about it later after they picked your pocket to pay for it? LEARN THE FACTS.

What Americans expect from Washington is action that matches the urgency they feel in their daily lives -- action that's swift, bold and wise enough for us to climb out of this crisis. IF YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE OF THE THREE -SWIFT, BOLD OR WISE- WHICH IS BEST? WHAT’S THAT LINE ABOUT FOOLS RUSH IN?

Because each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their homes. And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. AND IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOTHING THIS RECESSION MIGHT ALSO LINGER FOR YEARS.

Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. ABSOLUTELY A MADE UP NUMBER PULLED FROM THIN AIR.HASN”T HE ADJUSTED THIS NUMBER UP IN THE SAME PROPORTION TO HOW MUCH THE SUPPORT OF THIS BILL HAS GONE DOWN. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse. WHAT DOES THIS ACTUALLY MEAN? EVERYTHING WILL BECOME WORTHLESS? THE END OF AMERICA? THAT’S WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF HIS WISHLIST DOESN‘T GET PASSED?

That's why I feel such a sense of urgency about the recovery plan before Congress. With it, we will create or save more than 3 million jobs over the next two years, WHICH IS IT; CREATE OR SAVE? -OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER NUMBER OUT OF THIN AIR? that’s audacity. Here in Michigan we have a governor who has made the same types of job creation promises. Guess how we’re doing? provide immediate tax relief to 95 percent of American workers, WORKERS? WHY DO I GET THE FEELING YOU DON“T THINK PEOPLE EARNING MORE THAN $100,000K WORK? -AND THAT SOME OF THAT TAX RELIEF IS REALLY JUST CUTTING CHECKS TO FOLKS WHO DON”T PAY ANY TAX ALREADY? …ignite spending by businesses and consumers alike, and take steps to strengthen our country for years to come. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HAVING A BILL THAT DOES ONLY THAT? WHAT”S WRONG WITH WAITING ON YOUR WISH LIST AND HAVING YOUR IDEOLOGICAL SPENDING PROPOSALS GO THROUGH THE REGULAR LEGISLATIVE PROCESS? WHY STUFF THEM IN ONE HURRIED BILL AND CALL IT STIMULUS?

This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a strategy for America's long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, health care and education.

LET ME take this last sentence a little at a time;
This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a strategy for America's long-term growth IS THIS A CLEVER WAY OF SAYING THAT THIS ISN”T JUST A ONE-TIME SPENDING BILL AND THAT SOME OF THESE ITEMS ARE BEING BUILT INTO THE ANNUAL BASELINE? -THAT THIS TRILLION DOLLARS IS BEING WRITTEN TO REPEAT IN FUTURE BUDGETS? and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, WAIT A MINUTE, IS THIS A STIMULUS OR AN ENERGY BILL? health care IS THIS A HEALTH CARE BILL? WITH A LITTLE SOCIALISM SNUCK IN? and education. OR IS THIS AN EDUCATION BILL THAT THROWS EVEN MORE MONEY IN AN EDUCATION SYSTEM THAT GREW DRAMATICALLY UNDER NCLB?

And it's a strategy that will be implemented with unprecedented transparency and accountability, UNPRECEDENTED TRANSPARENCY?!?!?!? THEN WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO PASS IT UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS JUST AS THE ACCOUNTING DETAILS ARE STARTING TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY?
so Americans know where their tax dollars are going and how they are being spent. HOW BOUT LETTING US?

In recent days, there have been misguided criticisms of this plan that echo the failed theories that helped lead us into this crisis -HERE’S HIS SAME ARGUMENT; ANYONE OPPOSES HIM ARE MISGUIDED BASED ON FLAWED THEORY. WHAT FINANCIAL CRISES WAS EVER SOLVED WITH PORK AND KICKBACKS? - the notion that tax cuts alone will solve all our problems; WHO SAYS THAT? that we can meet our enormous tests with half-steps and piecemeal measures; OR THAT? that we can ignore fundamental challenges such as energy independence ENERGY INDEPENDENCE ISN’T CENTRAL TO STIMULUS, IS IT? WE’VE HAD RECESSIONS WHEN WE WERE ENERGY INDEPENDENT? and the high cost of health care and still expect our economy and our country to thrive. WHY SINGLE OUT HEALTH CARE COSTS? WHY NOT TARGET ALL COSTS?

I reject these theories, and so did the American people when they went to the polls in November and voted resoundingly for change. UM, MR. PRESIDENT. WHEN IN YOUR CAMPAIGN DID YOU SAY YOU WERE GOING TO CRAM ALL OF YOUR SPENDING PLANS INTO ONE TRILLION DOLLAR BILL RUSHED THROUGH AND FULL OF PORK AND KICKBACKS TO SPECIAL INTERESTS? ? They know that we have tried it those ways for too long. SO WE SHOULD GIVE MORE MONEY TO PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT MORE HOUSE THAN THEY CAN AFFORD, And because we have, our health-care costs still rise faster than inflation. Our dependence on foreign oil still threatens our economy and our security. Our children still study in schools that put them at a disadvantage. We've seen the tragic consequences when our bridges crumble and our levees fail. COME ON, PEOPLE. AN ENTIRE PLATFORM CRAMMED INTO ONE BILL? NO PRESIDENT HAS EVER BEEN SO AUDACIOUS!!!

THE NEXT FOUR PARAGRAPHS ARE LIKE A SLEAZY USED CAR SALESMAN TRYING TO GET YOU TO BUY TONIGHT WHEN YOU KNOW YOU OUGHTA SLEEP ON IT.

Every day, our economy gets sicker -- and the time for a remedy that puts Americans back to work, jump-starts our economy and invests in lasting growth is now.

NOW is the time to protect health insurance for the more than 8 million Americans at risk of losing their coverage and to computerize the health-care records of every American within five years, saving billions of dollars and countless lives in the process.

NOW is the time to save billions by making 2 million homes and 75 percent of federal buildings more energy-efficient, and to double our capacity to generate alternative sources of energy within three years.

NOW is the time to give our children every advantage they need to compete by upgrading 10,000 schools with state-of-the-art classrooms, libraries and labs; by training our teachers in math and science; and by bringing the dream of a college education within reach for millions of Americans.

And NOW is the time to create the jobs that remake America for the 21st century by rebuilding aging roads, bridges and levees; designing a smart electrical grid; and connecting every corner of the country to the information superhighway.

ARE YOU PEOPLE SEEING WHAT HE’S DOING?!?! He’s trying to cram a whole year’s worth of initiatives into one bill in his first month? THIS IS MADNESS!

These are the actions Americans expect us to take without delay. They're patient enough to know that our economic recovery will be measured in years, not months. But they have no patience for the same old partisan gridlock that stands in the way of action while our economy continues to slide. WE WON! GIMME MY GOODIES!!!

So we have a choice to make. We can once again let Washington's bad habits stand in the way of progress. Or we can pull together and say that in America, our destiny isn't written for us but by us. WHAT? We can place good ideas ahead of old ideological battles, and a sense of purpose above the same narrow partisanship. THEN WHY AREN’T SOME OF THE OTHER IDEOLOGICAL ITEMS IN THIS BILL? WHY IS IT ALL LIBERALISM?

We can act boldly to turn crisis into opportunity and, together, write the next great chapter in our history and meet the test of our time. WELL, ISN"T THAT SPECIAL?

The writer is president of the United States.

Democrats Vote to Discriminate Against Students...

of Faith Stimulus bans universities and colleges from using funds to renovate buildings where students engage in “religious worship”

February 5, 2009 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - ***CLICK HERE to see how senators voted***

Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement after Democrats voted 43-54 against his amendment to strike language from the economic stimulus bill that discriminates against students of faith. Senator DeMint’s amendment would have eliminated a provision that bans any university or college receiving funds to renovate buildings, from allowing “sectarian instruction” or “religious worship” within the facility. This would in effect bar use of campus buildings for groups like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Campus Crusade for Christ, Catholic Student Ministries, Hillel, and other religious organizations.
“This is a direct attack on students of faith, and I’m outraged Democrats are using an economic stimulus bill to promote discrimination,”
said Senator DeMint.
“Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for siding with the ACLU over millions of students of faith. These students simply want equal access to public facilities, which is their constitutional right. This hostility toward religion must end. Those who voted to for this discrimination are standing in the schoolhouse door to deny people of faith from entering any campus building renovated by this bill. “This is now an ACLU stimulus designed to trigger lawsuits designed to intimidate religious organizations across the nation. This language is so vague, it’s not clear if students can even pray in a dorm room renovated with this funding since that is a form of ‘religious worship.’ If this provision remains in the bill, it will have a chilling effect on students of faith in America. “It is in hard times that our society most needs faith. It provides the light that no darkness can overcome. This provision is an attempt to extinguish that light from college campuses, from the lives of our youth. “In the words of President Obama today, ‘Faith can promote a greater good for all of us.’ Our varied beliefs can bring us together and rebuild what is broken. It lifts those who have fallen on hard times. Our culture cannot survive without faith and our nation cannot survive without freedom. This provision is an assault against both. It's un-American and it's unconstitutional. Intolerant and it's intolerable.”
This funding restriction is unconstitutional. In the 2001 Good News Club v. Milford Central School Supreme Court decision, the court ruled that restricting religious speech within the context of public shared-use facilities (or schools) is unconstitutional. Pages 164-165 of the stimulus contain the following prohibitions on the use of $3.5 billion available for renovation of public or private college and university facilities.
(2) PROHIBITED USES OF FUNDS.—No funds awarded under this section may be used for— (C) modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities— (i) used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or (ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission; or construction of new facilities.

Stimulus Package: Pork, pork and more pork

I will be watching Hannity tonight. He will be explaining the whole package to us. This will be very interesting. Will report on this tomorrow.

In the meantime, my knight will be filing our taxes on Turbotax......oh gosh!! no hiccup here!

Mystified

With the Democrats in charge of the government, it is very hard for me to understand how they can get away with such flagrant, self-indulgent activity. The so-called stimulus package that is essentially remedy to nowhere with unbelievable payouts that make no sense at all is just one example.

Where are all the people who voted for this idiot for president? How are you feeling now? Are you watching? Do you have a clue what is going on? Do you care? Or are you just happy to have your "black" president?

Unbelievable, just unbelievable.

Our new Republican National Committee Chairman

Not only is Michael Steele a fine representative of the party with a humble, intelligent and human appeal, he is a devout Catholic. This is good.
